60 students of UlSTU were awarded a scholarship by the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region

Students of Ulyanovsk State Technical University were awarded with a scholarship of the Governor of Ulyanovsk region "Named after Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev" for special academic achievements.

Scholarship recipients receive monthly payments of three thousand rubles from 1 July 2023 to 31 January 2024. This year, the number of Polytechnic students who won the scholarship increased from 53 to 60.

The scholarship of the Governor of Ulyanovsk Region "Named after Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev" is awarded to full-time students in the areas related to the following enlarged groups: mathematical and natural sciences; engineering, technology and technical sciences; healthcare and medical sciences; agriculture and agricultural sciences; education and pedagogical sciences. Candidates must have a total of 240 points according to the results of school final exams in the subjects in which they were enrolled, as well as pass the previous session with "excellent".

In total, there are 14 types of scholarships provided to students by the regional Government in the Ulyanovsk region

UlSTU students will perform at the World Programming Championship in Northern Eurasia

The Championship of the South and the Volga Region of Russia — the quarterfinals of the World Programming Championship “International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)” has ended in Saratov. Two teams of Ulyanovsk State Technical University reached the semifinals, three teams received advanced diplomas in ICPC sports programming.

84 teams fr om 30 universities that passed the qualification selection competed for the status of champion and the right to go to St. Petersburg for the final of Northern Eurasia - "Northern Eurasia Finals". Ulyanovsk region was represented by several teams of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies of Ulyanovsk State Technical University.

Two teams of young IT specialists made it to the semifinals. The first team consists of Maxim Karamushko, Sergey Kozyrev and Timur Kuvshinov. They showed the best result — 7 solved problems out of 12 brought them a diploma of the II degree. The team of second year students: Artem Karavashkin, Dmitry Krylov and Valeria Shuvalova won a diploma of the III degree and also made it to the semifinals of the Championship. For the first time since 2012 UlSTU will again be represented in the Northern Eurasia Championship by two teams.

"The set of tasks was balanced in complexity: there were both easy tasks that all teams managed to solve, and difficult ones that no one solved. I would like to note that our victory is a great personal achievement and a great merit of our coach," said Maxim Karamushko, a member of the winning team.

The coach of the teams was the senior lecturer of the department "Computer Engineering" Daniil Gorshkov.

"The Sports Programming Championship is the most prestigious team competition for young IT specialists. It is not the first time that UlSTU students have become winners of the quarterfinals and diploma holders, confirming the high level of professional training. Preparation for the championship took place throughout the school year as part of regular classes," Daniil Gorshkov said.

The team of first—year students — Danila Bugrov, Roman Buslaev and Nikita Pokladov - also managed to get a diploma of the III degree.

"The final place would allow the freshman team to advance to the semifinals. Unfortunately, according to the rules, our university can send no more than two teams to the next stage. Nevertheless, the situation when as many as three of our teams were among the potential semi-finalists is unprecedented. We have never achieved such a result in the quarterfinals before!", — shared Daniil Gorshkov.

Now the winning teams will prepare for the upcoming competitions, which will be held in December in St. Petersburg. "Victory motivates to prepare more, more often, more intensively, more densely. It encourages us to reach the final," said Sergey Kozyrev, a member of the first team.

The ICPC Programming World Championships have been held since 1977 according to a multi-level system: all universities in the world are divided into regions wh ere regional finals are held (in Russia, this is the final of Northern Eurasia in St. Petersburg). In large regions, the selection for the regional finals is based on the results of the regional semifinals. UlSTU students took part in the International Game "Oil Owl"

Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after A.N. Gubkin held the V International Game among the youth of the oil and gas industry «Oil Owl». 74 teams of enterprises of oil and gas industry, educational institutions of Russia and near abroad tried their forces.

The Ulyanovsk State Technical University was represented by ten undergraduate students of the «Oil and Gas Business» direction, headed by the head of the department, director of the international institute Pavel Pazushkin.

In addition to participation in the intellectual game, the students of UlSTU visited a number of educational centers and the mineralogical museum of the Petroleum and Gas Company (NIU) named after I.M. Gubkin. Polytechnic students also visited the Museum of Trunk Gas Transport.

The intellectual game «Oil and Gas Owl» was conducted by the Youth Council of the oil and gas industry under the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and Gubkin University with the support of the Ministry of Energy of Russia and «Gazprom». The results of the regional stage of the Russian national award "Student of the Year - 2023" in Ulyanovsk region have been summarized. Students of UlSTU became prize-winners of the award, including the Grand Prix winner.

The winners and laureates of the regional stage of the award were awarded at the concert hall "Tarelka" of Ulyanovsk State Technical University. The main prizes were awarded by the Regional Minister of Youth Development Artem Miroshnikov and the director of the Department of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Accomplishment of Ulyanovsk region Talgat Khairutdinov.

Umejon Mulobegov, a student of the International Institute of UlSTU, became the winner of the Grand Prix of the annual Student of the Year award, and the student also took first place in the nomination "Foreign Student of the Year". Umejon is studying in the fourth year in the direction of "Oil and gas business". Throughout the entire period of study, he takes an active part in the creative life of the university.

"I performed in all four stages: self-presentation, testing, team and cultural-guest games. I think if you believe in your victory, then everything will work out! By the way, I think that my cherished dream has come true: I am studying at the best university in Russia. The contest itself was wonderful: I made new acquaintances with students of other universities. Among the prize winners are also five students of UlSTU: the first place in the nomination "Foreign Student of the Year" was taken by Mahmadali Jurabekov. The second places were awarded to Timur Karimov in the nomination "Chairman of the Council of Students of the Year", Ekaterina Shmagina in the nomination "Creative Personality of the Year", Daria Kirpecheva in the nomination "Headman of the Year". On 18 th of September our University celebrates the 66th anniversary of its foundation. With a feeling of deep joy and from the bottom of my heart I want to congratulate you on the birthday of Ulyanovsk State Technical University!

Throughout all these years, UlSTU (formerly UlPI) has always been and remains the flagship of higher engineering education, science and innovation in the Ulyanovsk region. For decades, UlSTU has confidently held the brand of the source of the manpower of engineering personnel for many industries and the economy. The University has armed thousands of its graduates with knowledge and given a start in life, who work today in different parts of the region and the country, run large enterprises and companies, work on complex systems and create advanced technologies.
The rich scientific and practical experience of lecturers, the intellectual potential and creativity of students, the successes and achievements of graduates of our university serve to successfully solve problems of any level of complexity. The anniversary year of UlSTU education, which we all celebrated together widely and worthily in 2022, became a real starting impulse and brought the university into a new stage of development.

Together with industrial partners, we continue to improve the material and technical base. Specialized classrooms and laboratories with the latest equipment are being opened at UlSTU. At the moment, the university has more than 20 such laboratories.
The opening of the first scientific and educational laboratory of quantum computing in the region became a landmark stage in moving forward. Obviously, we are on the verge of major changes and a breakthrough. It is quantum technologies that will very soon determine the shape of the national economy and ensure the technological sovereignty of the country.

Unmanned technologies are also capable of changing our lives in the near future. This year, for the first time, the UlSTU robotics team tested an unmanned vehicle based on the Patriot UAZ. The developments that scientists are currently working on will provide strategic and competitive advantages of drones.

UlSTU students have completed an internship at Harbin Institute of Technology

Students of the "Linguistics" direction of Ulyanovsk State Technical University returned fr om China, wh ere they studied under a summer short-term program. Theoretical and practical classes were held at Harbin Institute of Technology throughout July.

UlSTU provides its students with study abroad programs. The summer educational program in China was attended by linguists of the Faculty of Humanities studying in the profile "Intercultural Communication". The internship is organized to improve the effectiveness of learning a foreign language.

At Harbin Institute of Technology, the national language is used for teaching in all courses so that students can master it as soon as possible. At the beginning of the program, UlSTU students passed a verbal language test to determine the level of Chinese language proficiency and distribution into groups. In addition to classes in the traditional format, linguists attended special cultural lessons and participated in events related to the content of the course.

"During the internship, classes dedicated to the Beijing opera were held. After the theoretical part, we were given the opportunity to touch the art of the Celestial Empire ourselves. We could try to paint a Peking opera mask or a fan. Other groups sang songs, engaged in breathing practices" - told the assistant of the Department of "Foreign Languages" and "History and Culture" Valeria Zelenova.

After lectures and seminars, students attended organized excursions: to the Museum of Cosmonautics, the Museum of History, the Temple of Confucius.

Students had the opportunity to explore the sights of Harbin on their own. On the first weekend, UlSTU students walked along Zhongyang Street. There are many buildings in various styles on Zhongyang: from the Renaissance to the Art Nouveau. Most of all, as linguists note, the beauty of architecture and picturesque nature in the parks are impressive. To the north of the pedestrian street is the embankment of the Sungari River, along which the Stalin Park, opened in the 50s, is located. There are many monuments and sculptures here, and the square in the center is the venue for numerous holidays, one of which was attended by students of UlSTU.

According to the results of their studies at Harbin University, linguists had to pass an oral exam of three blocks. Students read, answered questions, spoke on the proposed topic and supplemented the texts with new words. Everyone coped with the tests in Chinese perfectly and received certificates.

"On the one hand, we are happy with the successful completion of training, on the other hand, we are already used to such a rhythm, to teachers and our classmates. We made a lot of new friends in China, we were sad to part. The internship in Harbin is a unique opportunity for students to see everything with their own eyes, to feel everything for themselves. It is important for future linguists to be in a language environment and communicate with native speakers" - told Valeria Zelenova.

The first quantum computing laboratory in Ulyanovsk region was opened in UlSTU

A scientific and educational laboratory for quantum computing has been created at the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies of Ulyanovsk State Technical University. The quantum computers installed here will speed up the processes of complex calculations and the processing of large data arrays.

A new laboratory of the University was opened on the basis of the Department of Information Systems, specializing in mathematical, computer, cognitive modeling, system analysis, management and information processing. The laboratory is interdepartmental and interfaculty. Representatives of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies and the Faculty of Radio Engineering are planning to work together on the tasks of quantum machine learning and quantum communications

"Quantum technologies are able to provide leadership, technological independence and national security of our country. Now they are the promising areas of development, so the growth of competencies of specialists in the field of information technology, communication systems, engineers is simply necessary. UlSTU students have already got the opportunity to engage in various quantum computing and modeling of quantum processes. For teachers and scientists of the university, with the opening of the laboratory, a qualitatively new stage of research activities in this area begins" - noted Rector of UlSTU Nadezhda Yarushkina.

The unique specialized equipment includes courses that allow students to study or repeat a course of discrete mathematics before working with quantum computing.

"The quantum computer environment itself has a minimalistic interface, in which there are theoretical calculations of the quantum course. Its advantage lies in the fact that it is well integrated into the quantum computing environment itself. From the point of view of the transition to real quantum computing, the computer has an environment that allows you to form quantum circuits based on the operators presented on the toolbar, and there are pre-prepared algorithms for two-qubit and one-qubit circuits" - told the head of the department "Information Systems" Anton Romanov.

The laboratory will conduct research related to quantum machine learning, performing customization tasks and quantum communications interacting with encryption and cryptography in secure communication channels.

An UlSTU scientist Vadim Moshkin made a presentation on artificial intelligence at a forum in China

Director of the Department of Digital Transformation, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems of UlSTU, Candidate of Technical Sciences Vadim Moshkin visited China among the laureates of the “Chinese Ambassador's Award”. Young scientists and engineers got acquainted with research institutions, industrial enterprises and exchanged experiences at thematic seminars and forums.

The scientific trip, organized especially for the winners of the "Chinese Ambassador's Award", was held from May 21 to 30. The Russian delegation included 25 people from 15 cities and 20 Russian organizations. The award was established in 2020 by the Russian Union of Scientific and Engineering Public Associations and the Chinese Embassy in Russia. The young scientist of UlSTU Vadim Moshkin became the winner of the award in 2021 for the development of methods for an intelligent automated system for collecting unstructured information from open sources. Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the trip to China had to be postponed until the restrictions were lifted.

" We visited two cities in China - Guangzhou and Shenzhen. All members of the delegation were divided into three groups in accordance with the areas of scientific interests: modern production, biology and medicine, information technology. Excursions to technology companies were organized for each group, we visited the sites of such Chinese manufacturing giants as Huawei Technologies, CloudWalk Technology, CAS Cogniser Technology and other well-known companies" - Vadim Moshkin told.

The issues of scientific and technological innovations formed the basis of the discussion of the annual forum of the Greater Gulf region. At the largest scientific platform in Asia, researchers and representatives of innovative business from different countries discuss urgent issues and current developments. Vadim Moshkin made a presentation on the topic of data analysis and artificial intelligence at one of the forum sites dedicated to information technologies.

UlSTU entered THE Impact Rankings 2023

The Times Higher Education (THE) has published THE Impact Rankings 2023. The project evaluates universities by their impact on the sustainable development of society and their contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals defined by the United Nations.

The overall ranking of 2023 includes 1,591 higher education institutions from 112 countries, including 86 Russian universities. UlSTU is the only university in the Ulyanovsk region included in the ranking. UlSTU, along with a number of other Russian universities, including those with the status of national research, is included in the 1001+ group. According to the ranking, UlSTU has achieved the greatest success in four sustainable development goals: "Quality education", "Good health and well-being", "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", "Partnership for the goals".

THE University Impact Rankings was first introduced in 2019: it was created to measure the contribution of the world's universities to socio-economic development through the prism of the global Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN. In total, universities are evaluated according to 17 goals.

Students of International Institute of UlSTU celebrated the Day of Russian language

The traditional celebration of the Day of Russian language for foreign students took place on the day of birth of the great Russian writer Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. The event was attended by students from Afghanistan, Guinea-Bissau, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Eritrea, Tajikistan and Russia.

During the holiday, students played skits based on Alexander Pushkin's fairy tales, read the poet's poems about autumn. They also recalled an excerpts from Vladimir Mayakovsky's and Sergei Mikhalkov's poems.

The holiday ended with awarding foreign students with letters of thanks for creative initiatives and the development of intercultural communications.

Ulyanovsk State Technical University presented educational programs at international exhibitions in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan.

From April 17 to April 30, representatives of Ulyanovsk State Technical University are holding career guidance events and the international Olympiad in general education subjects "I study in Ulyanovsk" in the Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan.

On April 17 and 18, meetings with schoolchildren and test sessions of the Olympiad were held in the urban-type settlements of Moskovsky, Parkhar, and on April 19 in the city of Kulyab. Representatives of UlSTU visited seven secondary educational institutions and held the Olympiad in four of them. 86 people took part in the Olympiad in the Republic of Tajikistan in April.

UlSTU has improved its position in the RAEX local ranking

The rating agency RAEX has presented the second version of the local ranking of universities by federal districts. UlSTU has risen by eight positions compared to the previous ranking and took second place among universities of the Ulyanovsk region and 18th place among 55 universities of the Volga Federal District.

In total, the new ranking includes 304 higher education institutions from 79 regions of the country (in all eight federal districts of Russia). The first local ranking of December 2021 included 327 universities from 79 subjects of Russian Federation. The current version of the ranking assessed the level of education at the university (quantity – 45%), scientific achievements (quantity – 25%) and social activities of the university (quantity – 30%).

The local university ranking is a part of the "Three University Missions" (MosIUR) which was founded by the Russian Union of Rectors with the information assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. The Association of Rating Makers (ARM) was chosen as its operator. ARM members include leading rating and research centers (Expert RA, VCIOM, Reputatsiya, etc.).

The methodology and system of indicators used in compiling the lists make it possible to objectively evaluate universities, the quality of whose work largely determines the trends and pace of development of the subjects of the federation. The main focus of the ranking is not to identify national leaders, but to evaluate a wide range of regional and highly specialized universities.

An expanded final meeting of the governing council of the World-class research and educational Center (REC) "Engineering of the Future" was held in Samara. The co-chair of the Governing Council of REC, Rector of UlSTU Nadezhda Yarushkina took part in it in a remote format.

The 57th Scientific and Technical conference "University Science in modern conditions" has started at UlSTU

On 23 of January UlSTU hosted a plenary session of the scientific and technical conference of the teaching staff on the results of research work in 2022.

Rector of Ulyanovsk State Technical University Nadezhda Yarushkina made a welcoming speech to the conference participants. Vice-Rector in science and research Alexey Namestnikov spoke about the results of research activities last year and the tasks for 2023. On New Year's Eve, we summarize the results, remember the achievements and victories, set new goals and make wishes. We were all concerned about common problems, together we tried to cope with them and, working with full dedication, we did a lot in 2022.

The outgoing year will be remembered, of course, by the celebration of the 65th anniversary of UlSTU. Many warm letters of congratulations were sent to the university, many wishes from friends and partners were said, anniversary events, meetings and Faculty Days were organized. Recognition of the merits of our university is very important, so we say with confidence that UlSTU has worked, is working and will always work on the basis of the most effective quality management system of education and in the best traditions of the national higher school.

In the year of the 65th anniversary, we have perpetuated the memory of those who have done a lot for the development of science and the university.

The growth of interest in technical and engineering specialties was confirmed by this year's admission campaign. The university has increased the number of budget places, primarily in the master's degree program in priority areas of the Russian economy. For the first time, UlSTU conducted a master's degree program in five of the latest programs in the field of artificial intelligence. In 2023, the university is waiting for the first bachelors for new specialties in the field of information technology in the profile of artificial intelligence. And the geography of applicants to the Polytechnic now looks very extensive: students from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Tambov regions, Krasnodar, Perm Krai, Komi Republic, Mordovia, Chuvashia, Lugansk and Donetsk Republics are enrolled in the university.

In 2022, there were many successful projects that allow us to look to the future with optimism. The Competence Center "Composite Technologies" was opened on the basis of the Institute of Aviation Technologies and Management. The implementation of the large-scale project "Development of applied mathematics methods for solving interdisciplinary problems of environmentally friendly energy production from municipal and industrial waste", the winner of the megagrant competition of the Ministry of Education and Science, continues. In collaboration with a professor at the Democritus University of Thrace (Greece) by Theodor Simos, who took the first place among mathematicians in Russia in the Web of Science ranking for 2022, a world-class laboratory was created at UlSTU. The main personnel of the laboratory are young scientists, postgraduates and students of UlSTU. Another world–renowned scientist works in the laboratory - Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Sheremet Mikhail Alexandrovich from Tomsk.

The digital environment of the university is being improved, new services and options have been launched for students and teachers: cloud data storage, media archive with photos, video materials and electronic versions of the corporate newspaper. In the personal account, students can find out the schedule and find the right audience on the map.

As always, students participating in international and All-Russian, creative, intellectual and sports competitions and forums: "Student Startup", "Your Turn", "Student of the Year", "iVolga" and others contribute to the achievements of the university. Our national teams adequately represented the region at the All-Russian Summer Universiade in sport orienteering, chess and taekwondo competitions.

The RoboLife robotics team improved the Gazelle Next and became the absolute winner of the annual All-Russian competitions of unmanned vehicles "Robocross". The team has grandiose plans ahead: the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has transferred UlSTU "UAZ – Patriot", on the basis of which an unmanned vehicle will also be created.

A new stage of development will also begin at the scientific and educational center "Boiling Point", which won the competition for grants and the creation of "Entrepreneurial Boiling Points" this year. New "Points" in universities should become a powerful platform for the development of youth entrepreneurship, ensuring economic security and achieving technological sovereignty of the country.

New Year in Russia

New Year is one of the biggest and most popular holidays in Russia. Like in most other countries, New Year’s Day falls on the 1st of January, but the celebration begins on New Year’s Eve, on the 31st of December. Most people start celebrating it in the evening and finish early in the morning. The most important part is the moment when the New Year begins – at midnight.

In Russia, New Year’s is a bigger holiday than Christmas, and it is very similar to Christmas in Western cultures. The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on the 7th of January, but, unlike Christmas in Western countries, it is a strictly religious holiday. In other words, usually, people do not have parties and family dinners on Christmas. There is also no tradition of giving presents, putting up a Christmas tree and decorating in the Christmas period. Russian people do all that for New Year.

In December, people shop for presents and Christmas trees ( “New Year trees”). It is customary to give presents on New Year’s Eve. Most families make a lot of dishes and invite guests over. The guests might bring gifts, especially if there are little children there, but it is not necessary. Usually, people in Russia give presents to their family and friends. As for gifts for children, these are brought by Grandfather Frost – the Russian version of Santa Claus. By the way, Russian Santa Claus does not work alone; he has a young assistant called Snegurochka. She is his granddaughter, and her name means something like «Snow Girl».

On the 1st of January, at night, Grandfather Frost magically visits every family and leaves presents for children. There are no traditions with stockings; he leaves the gifts under the New Year tree. Kids wake up in the morning and rush to see what is under the tree. This is the most exciting morning for them!

Usually, people start celebrating on 31st of December at about 9 p.m. or even later, it depends on the family’s own traditions. The celebration is basically a dinner party with a lot of dishes and drinks. People drink, eat, chat, sing, and have fun. Probably, the most traditional New Year dish is Olivier salad, made of sausages, diced boiled potatoes, vegetables and mayonnaise. In some countries, it is known as Russian salad.

A few minutes before midnight, people pour some champagne, turn on their TVs and watch the New Year Presidential Message. After that, the TV shows the Kremlin Clock. The Kremlin Clock is the most well-known and important clock in the country, similar to Big Ben in England. At 12 o’clock sharp it chimes, and that marks the beginning of the New Year. Millions of people say, “Happy New Year!”, cheer, drink champagne and pull crackers.

Most of the celebration takes place during the night. On the 1st of January, most people wake up late and clean up after the celebration. Usually, there is still a lot of food left over. Every year, there is a long holiday period from the 1st to the 9th or 10th of January. Most people do not work on those days; they just rest and watch New Year TV shows and movies.

Every major city has New Year festivals, concerts, fairs and other celebratory events. Main squares are decorated with trees, lights and decorations, everywhere there are music and fireworks.

Ulyanovsk State Technical University has risen in the international UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2022

1050 universities from 85 countries participated in the UI GreenMetric 2022 ranking. Russia was represented in the ranking by 52 universities. UlSTU became the only university in the Ulyanovsk region included in the rating.

The overall score of UlSTU, compared with the indicators of the rating of 2021, increased by 1052 points. UlSTU has the highest scores in the groups of indicators "Education and Research", "Setting and infrastructure" and "Transportation". In recent years Ulyanovsk State Technical University has demonstrated a steady growth of indicators, which was reflected in the increase in the position of Ulyanovsk State Technical University in the main environmental rating of the world, compared to 2021, by 70 points, despite the fact that the number of participants has increased - in 2022 the rating includes 1050 universities, which is 94 more than last year.

The University of Indonesia (UI) initiated in 2010 the World University Ranking, which later became known as UI GreenMetric (UI GreenMetric World University Rankings). Its purpose is to quantify efforts to maintain the sustainability (environmental friendliness) of campuses. The founders of the rating seek to draw the attention of the academic community to the need to conduct a policy of sustainable environmental development in order to solve environmental problems.

UlSTU scientists became winners of the regional competition "Engineer of the Year"

On December 8, within the framework of the XIV business forum "Business Climate in Russia", an award ceremony was held for the winners and participants of the annual regional competition "Engineer of the Year-2022". Two representatives of Ulyanovsk State Technical University were among the top 15 specialists in the region.

The winners of the competition were Anton Skalkin, senior lecturer of the Department of Information Systems, and Yulia Stroeva, assistant of the Department of Information Systems.

This year, the competition received 25 applications from 8 organizations of the Ulyanovsk region, 11 of them in the direction of "Professional engineers" and 14 in the direction of "Engineering art of the young". According to the results of the competition, 15 engineers were recognized as winners, among them - seven professionals and eight young specialists.

One of postgraduate students is a student of the Department of Measurement and Computer Systems, Faculty of Information Systems and Technology Pham Tien Manh from Vietnam. Pham Tien Manh has been studying at UlSTU for 11 years.

Currently, UlSTU trains highly qualified personnel in postgraduate studies in 13 areas of training implemented according to Federal State Educational Standards. On October 19, a volunteer clean-up was held in "Sengileyevskiye Gory" National Park. Students of the Faculty of Energy, as well as the lecturer of the Department of Industrial Ecology and Technosphere Safety Vera Gusarova and the head of the Department Oksana Falova took part in it.

During the clean-up, university students collected more than 150 bags of garbage. A section of forest near the village of Stary Bely Yar in the Cherdaklinsky district was cleared.

Postgraduate student of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technology Liu Kong Kiem defended his Ph.D. thesis on automated parametric synthesis of static pressure receivers for low sound velocities.

“Liu Kong Kiem researched static pressure receivers for aircrafts. The topic is very relevant, but not developed enough. The receivers allow to perceive the static pressure, which is necessary to measure the altitude and speed of the aircraft. Flight safety directly depends on the accuracy of measuring these parameters. A postgraduate student was engaged in the development of a specialized system for automating the design of static pressure receivers. He conducted research, developed mathematical models, algorithmic and software synthesis of these devices, and also formulated recommendations for developers for the searching of geometric parameters of receivers at the initial stage of their design” - said scientific supervisor of Liu Kong Kiem, associate professor of the Department of Measurement and Computer Systems, Ph. D. Ivan Efimov.

Liu Kong Kiem entered UlSTU ten years ago. Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies were held at Ulyanovsk State Technical University at the Department of Measurement and Computer Systems.

On the 1st of September Ulyanovsk State Technical University celebrated the beginning of the new academic year. Aleksey Russkikh, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region, attended the ceremonial events at the university.

The first-year students of UlSTU celebrated the beginning of the new academic year in their new status. In 2022, 1,128 students were enrolled for state-funded places. The solemn opening ceremony of the Competence Center «Composite Technology» on the basis of the Institute of Aviation Technologies and Management «Ulyanovsk State Technical University» took place on the 5th of August.

Rector of UlSTU Nadezhda Yarushkina made the speech about the staff which is training in Ulyanovsk State Technical University for composite industry. First Deputy CEO of «UMATEX» Alexey Dremuchev, spoke about the development and prospects of educational projects in the field of composite materials and technologies in his speech.

UlSTU students were sent to the Badra oil field for practical training and internship

From July 28 to August 16, a group of students and graduates of the Ulyanovsk State Technical University, who studied in the field of «Oil and gas engineering» in bachelor's and master's degrees, is undergoing industrial practice and postgraduate internship at the Badra oil field in the Republic of Iraq.

The internship for students and the internship for graduates are organized by «Gazprom Neft Badra B.V.». The referral to practice became possible after summing up the results of the competitive selection among students of Russian universities. Ten students were selected by «Gazprom Neft Badra B.V.» to undergo practical training in the oil field in 2022, among whom nine students were trained at UlSTU.

The group of Ulyanovsk State Technical University aimed at the Badra oil field included six students and three graduates from among the citizens of the Republic of Iraq who studied at the university in the field of «Oil and gas engineering».

Company «Gazprom Neft Badra B.V.» provided UlSTU students with round-trip flights (Moscow-Baghdad- Moscow), transfer Baghdad-Badra, three hot meals a day, accommodation in comfortable conditions and training program at the oil field. Before leaving for practice, all students underwent a mandatory medical examination to identify possible restrictions to work with harmful and/or hazardous substances and production factors when working in shifts in limited desert, high-temperature conditions in uninhabited, remote areas and areas with special natural conditions characteristic of the Badra oil field.

Upon arrival at the field on July 28, students and graduates of UlSTU solved organizational and household issues, got acquainted with the administrative staff, settled in their place of residence. Subsequently, a detailed familiarization with the current rules in the oil field of industrial safety and labor protection was carried out. On July 30, students were given an introductory bus tour of the central oil collection point (CPF - Central Process Facility) at the field, wh ere an experienced operator told about the processes and sites at the CPF. July 31 was the first full day of practice. The students, divided into teams of 2-3 people, were sent to production and technological sites for oil collection, oil preparation, and sulfur production. Mentors fr om among the experienced employees of the sites were assigned to them. In addition to working with mentors, students attend trainings related to safety (for example, Fire Safety and H2S Safety), as well as professional trainings at the training center, for example, about the processes and equipment at the oil treatment plant (UPN).

The students were given special notebooks to record their daily activities. There is a computer which is installed in the office, wh ere students can prepare practice reports in the evenings. Students also play football in their free evenings.

This is the second industrial practice organized for Ulyanovsk State Technical University students at the Badra oil field in the Republic of Iraq. The first practice took place in 2019.

«Gazprom Neft Badra B.V.» is the operator of the Badra oil field. The Badra oil field is located on the territory of the province of Wasit in the east of the Republic of Iraq. According to preliminary estimates, the geological reserves of Badra amount to 3 billion barrels of oil. The oil is light, close to the Brent grade, with an API density of 34-35 ° and a sulfur content of 3-4%.

More than three thousand people took part in the qualifying stage of the international Olympiad "Volga-IT'22"

On June 14, the organizing committee of the thirteenth International Digital Olympiad "Volga-IT'22" summed up the results of the qualifying stage. This year, representatives of 75 regions of Russia and 15 countries took part in the Olympiad.

Student of the Faculty of Energy Makhmadali Jurabekov won the All–Russian inter-University competition of poetry reading "My soul is Russia", held at the Moscow Polytechnic University from June 9 to 11. For the heartfelt reading of the poem "The Soul of Russia, the Russian soul" Makhmadali Jurabekov was awarded a diploma of the first degree.

45 students from 28 countries took part in the competition. Russian poets' poems were read by them in Russian. UlSTU was represented at the competition by students of the Faculty of Engineering Ahad Boltaev and Jahongir Tairov, as well as students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Energy Cordova Cervantes Leonardo Arturo and Mahmadali Jurabekov. Three students of Ulyanovsk State Technical University joined the Youth Government of Ulyanovsk region

The Youth Government of the region included students of Civil Engineering Faculty Anastasia Zakharova and Aidar Khaliullov and a student of the Faculty of Engineering and Economics Elena Lukyanova.

The formation of a new advisory body began in January. Among out of more than two hundred applications, 130 people were selected to participate in the first face-to-face strategic session, 40 boys and girls were admitted to the final event by experts. At the strategic sessions participants presented their ideas for the development of the Ulyanovsk region. According to the results of all competitive tests, 19 people were selected for the new structure of the Youth Government.

Aidar Halliulov took the post of Minister of Property Relations and Architecture, Elena Lukyanova – Minister of the region, Anastasia Zakharova will continue to work as Minister of Housing and Communal Services and Construction.

"Already now we are ready to use the technologies that are being developed at the university, in our company. The Industrial Internet Centre in Mechanical Engineering at Ulyanovsk State Technical University is developing new areas of research and educational activities that contribute to meeting the needs of machine-building enterprises of Ulyanovsk Region and Volga Federal District. The center is retraining specialists of enterprises to work on technological equipment with the issuance of document of state standard.

"Usually, technological equipment is rarely used in universities. But our regional center combines educational and production processes. Last year we produced parts for the machine tool, cartridge, and aircraft manufacturing plants, as well as for the instrument-making enterprises of Ulyanovsk, Cheboksary, and Samara. We make stamps, molds, housings, covers, instrument panels" - director of the regional technological Industrial Internet centre in Mechanical Engineering, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Evgeny Kiselyov noted.

In addition, UlSTU is developing an infrastructure for studying in a specialized training laboratory of the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant. Recently, the laboratory has been replenished with new bench equipment of domestic production, where students will be able to study the propagation of electromagnetic waves in microwave devices.

"This equipment is designed for work related to the measurement and analysis of the characteristics of microwave devices. The main elements of the stand are a meter of complex transmission and reflection coefficients and a waveguide ruler. A microwave signal is fed into the main waveguide of the ruler, and a large number of waveguide taps of the ruler allow to create the required amplitude distribution of the electromagnetic wave along the main waveguide. Other microwave devices can also be connected to the stand analyzer, the characteristics of which need to be measured. Scientists of Ulyanovsk State Technical University (UlSTU), headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies Kirill Svyatov are developing a system for conducting robotic competitions in virtual space.

"Nowadays the cost of equipment and significant time spent on training to work with it prevents robotics from being mass-produced. At the same time, simulation environments can be used to develop and debug algorithms. To make this direction more popular, we are faced with the task of creating a system which will automatically check that tasks performed by robots", - noted Kirill Svyatov.

The participants will be able to write the controller program code for the robot in the browser and publish it on a server that can automatically track how the robot performs tasks with this code.

"For example, if a robot needs to drive a labyrinth from point A to point B based on geometry, traffic signs, traffic lights it has to do it in autonomous mode and the testing environment has to check how quickly and accurately it has done this task. Since the whole process is automated, the number of participants in such competitions can be limited only by the computing capabilities of the servers on which they are launched. Soon the project will be ready and schoolchildren and students will be able to take part in virtual tournaments", - explained Kirill Svyatov.

Ulyanovsk State Technical University (UlSTU) has taken a whole range of measures to protect students and staff from coronavirus.
First of all there is a specialized platform which allows for uninterrupted learning. This mission has an objective to maintain the relationship with the students locked down home and reassure them as well as their families about the fate of the courses and the diplomas. Nevertheless, academic staff were not ready to switch to total distance learning and some were completely not familiar with eLearning platforms. For this, the Department of Information Technologies of the University worked very hard to organize distance learning. Also using this platform it is possible to find out the latest news about vaccination, mask regime and all the conditions for being healthy in such a difficult period.
Besides that all buildings on campus are equipped with sanitizers, masks and disinfecting mats. They are available to students and staff. Daily wet cleaning and sanitation are carried out in all buildings. Vaccination of staff and students is conducted. The level of vaccination reaches 85 %.
UlSTU has complied with the full range of measures to ensure safe learning in a pandemic.

Ulyanovsk State Technical University (UlSTU) has entered the international UI Green Metric World University Ranking 2021.
956 universities from 80 countries participated in the UI GreenMetric 2021. Russia was represented in the ranking by 54 universities. UlSTU became the only university of the Ulyanovsk region included in the rating.
The assessment is carried out on 6 indicators: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water resources, transport policy, education and research. Maximum points UlSTU got in such groups as "education and research" and "setting and infrastructure".
The University of Indonesia (UI) initiated in 2010 the World University Ranking, which later became known as UI GreenMetric (UI GreenMetric World University Rankings). Its purpose is to quantify efforts to maintain the sustainability (environmental friendliness) of campuses. The founders of the rating seek to draw the attention of the academic community to the need to conduct a policy of sustainable environmental development in order to solve environmental problems.

On September 1, Rector of Ulyanovsk State Technical University Prof. Nadezhda Jarushkina met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali, who discussed prospects for the development of scientific and educational cooperation.
UlSTU represented to delegation of the Islamic republic Iran Embassy educational programs, research materials and experience of the international activities of the university.
"Ulyanovsk State Technical University preparing engineers in various fields. In the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, UlSTU is in the top 100 Russian universities and takes 69th place. The main feature of university's educational process is that we strive to prepare future engineers not only for work, but also for invention. During a visit to UlSTU, delegation of the Islamic republic Iran Embassy visited the Regional Technological Center of the Industrial Internet in Mechanical Engineering. Kazem Jalali emphasized the pragmatic and innovative approach of the university to the educational system: students put the acquired knowledge into practice by performing practical work in the center of the industrial Internet.

UlSTU entered the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is a ranking system for world universities. The ranking is published by Cybermetrics Lab Webometrics, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council based in Madrid. The rating appeared in 2004 and is updated twice a year. Today, this rating is considered one of the most authoritative.
The purpose of the rating is to increase the presence of academies and research institutes in the Internet space and to promote open publication of the results of scientific activities.

Methods and approaches for evaluating educational institutions are in line with the Berlin Principles for ranking higher education institutions. These principles have been developed, agreed upon and validated as the basis for comparative studies of national higher education systems by the International Ranking Expert Group. According to these principles, there are more than 20,000 higher education institutions in the world today. From this worldwide database, 12,000 are included in the Webometrics ranking.

Webometrics makes it possible to judge the national system of higher education not by individual leading universities, but by the totality of its constituent universities. The ratio of the number of universities included in the rating to the total number of higher education institutions in the national education system is the most important indicator of the scale of the national higher education system, its integrity and readiness to accept new educational technologies.

According to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, Ulyanovsk State Technical University demonstrates a high level of scientific activity and presence in the Internet space and ranks 3205 in this ranking, ahead of both local universities and many well-known universities in other regions and countries.
